Everett's Ashes - a Somerset lad down under

Harry turned 30 recently, and so decided, before adulthood got too serious, to squeeze in one last trip down under. He managed four of the five Ashes Tests, naturally being present for every ball while also saying hello to everyone. Here is Part 1 of his diary.

For context, watching Ashes cricket at the main five venues in Australia plus a few bonus Big Bash (my second favourite T20 tournament after the Blast) matches, has been on my bucket.

In 2017/18, I was a student and was struggling mentally. For various family reasons, I was received the highest student grant, and so, having lived frugally for a term (thanks yellow Tesco sticks), I had some spare cash.

At 3am one wintry November night I took a break from my journalling and booked a flight to Australia without telling anyone. I left England with James Vince and Dawid Malan going quite well in the third Test...
