With red ball cricket a seeming distant horizon right now as the white ball dominates through The Hundred and the Metro Bank competitions, it might be appropriate to highlight a book dedicated to the old John Player League format.
While of course there was no coloured clothing and a red ball was used back in JPL days, it might be the format most similar to those current white ball competitions.
Mark Sands, author of "Stars on Sunday: The History of Cricket's John Player League," said the book would likely appeal both to older fans who remember the John Player League as well as maybe T20 and The Hundred devotees who might see parallels in the old 40 over format.
