An inexperienced Somerset side gave it their best shot in their opening Metro Bank One Day competition fixture but fell short eventually as their batting slipped away following a healthy start.
You can read more about the game report here but suffice to say that the final score of 258-9 was well short of optimal after such a good start that saw Somerset reach 166-2 (36 overs) and 204-3 (41 overs).
The crux of that fine batting start was the welcome return of Tom Lammonby who just missed out on a century. A reassuring sight to have such an experienced and stylish batter back in the team.
The question is where do they go from here? It's only one game but there are only eight guaranteed games anyway in this competition. This weekend's two games at The Cooper Associates may therefore be a crucial pointer to where the team is as all squads, to varying degrees, face hurdles caused by the absence of star players due to The Hundred.
